Repeal of Paid Sick Leave in Missouri
In November 2024, Missouri voters approved Proposition A, a ballot initiative to raise the state minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2026, and require paid sick leave for employees. The measure passed with broad support and was upheld by the Missouri Supreme Court against legal challenges. However, in 2025 the Republican-led Missouri Legislature enacted House Bill 567, which repealed key provisions of Proposition A—including the annual inflation adjustments to the minimum wage and the paid sick leave mandate—before they fully took effect. As a statute rather than a constitutional amendment, Proposition A could be modified or repealed by lawmakers, and the repeal took effect in August 2025. The minimum wage increases to $13.75 in 2025 and $15 in 2026 remained intact, but future automatic increases tied to the Consumer Price Index were eliminated.
