Illinois Paid Leave and Donation Leave
Illinois law now provides expanded paid leave protections for employees statewide. Under the Paid Leave for All Workers Act, most Illinois employers are required to provide up to 40 hours of paid leave per year for any reason, accrued at a rate of one hour for every 40 hours worked and usable after 90 days of employment. Employers that already offer at least 40 hours of unrestricted paid leave may rely on their existing policies to satisfy this requirement. This law does not apply to employees covered by the Chicago or Cook County paid leave ordinances, which impose separate obligations. In addition, amendments to the Employee Blood and Organ Donation Leave Act now require employers with 51 or more employees to provide up to 10 days of paid leave in a 12-month period for organ donation, in addition to existing protections for blood donation.
